DETHKLOK's BRENDON SMALL Discusses San Francisco Concert Cancellation
June 9, 2008Jeff Longo of Stubble Musiczine conducted an interview with DETHKLOK / "Metalocalypse" creator Brendon Small about the cancellation of DETHKLOK's June 5, 2008 concert at The Fillmore in San Francisco. An excerpt from the chat follows.
Stubble: So what happened at the Fillmore Thursday?
Brendon Small: Basically, there was that electrical fire and immediately the fire department canceled the show for safety reasons. I mean, the show would no longer be funny if people actually die. So we were like, let's get these people out here, let's rush them to safety. We were heroes. We saved 2,000 lives that night.
Stubble: You almost werent. When they made the announcements, nobody moved.
Brendon Small: You don't know if it should be taken seriously and it's a DETHKLOK show. We were so excited about playing that venue.the worst part is kids get so excited to see this show and they see the cops shut it down. Good news is that we are coming back on Monday, we re-routed our whole thing to make this happen and make san Francisco fans happy.
Stubble: I heard. Thank you!
Brendon Small: I am very happy to be coming back. It will just be DETHKLOK by themselves. The other bands (CHIMAIRA and SOILENT GREEN) just couldn't make the trek that we are. So it will be an evening with DETHKLOK.
Stubble: Wow, really? An evening with DETHKLOK! It became pretty surreal, I mean after the evacuation there were fire trucks with ladders on the roof, a woman appeared on the opposite building and it looked like she was holding a baby wrapped in a blanket (which it wasn't) and it appeared like she was going to drop it.
Brendon Small: She is so disappointed she is going to murder her own child. Again it was the right call for the cops to shut it down. If anything bad happed the show would never be funny again. Again, we saved their lives.

DETHKLOK's 28-city headlining tour also featuring CHIMAIRA and SOILENT GREEN kicked off on June 2 in Portland.
This major tour starring the five band members from Adult Swim's "Metalocalypse"Nathan Explosion, William Murderface, Skwisgaar Swigelf, Toki Wartooth and Pickles comes on the heels of an incredibly successful fall for the band. In its first time touring, DETHKLOK opened for AND YOU WILL KNOW US BY THE TRAIL OF DEAD in a 12-city college tour that did not disappoint. Released in conjunction with the tour was the band's first album, "Dethklok: The Dethalbum", which debuted at #21 on The Billboard 200 during its first week of release, making it the highest-charting death metal album ever. More than 195,000 copies of "Dethklok: The Dethalbum" have been sold to date, and more than 120,000 copies of the "Metalocalypse: Season 1" DVD from Warner Home Video have been sold since its release in October 2007.
